Sabre fencers can hit their opponent with the edge or the tip of their sword and must hit a target area that includes the head, arms, and torso. Sabre bouts are often fast-paced and explosive, with fencers trying to land quick, decisive hits.


Fencing has a long and rich history, dating back to the medieval period when swordsmanship was a necessary skill for knights and soldiers. The first fencing schools emerged in Italy in the 16th century, and the sport quickly spread throughout Europe.
